How to move the location of the storage folder

Post by sarah (electrongoo) » Sat Mar 03, 2018 6:59 pm

Due to the complexity of switching the location of the storage folder while the personal host is running this option is not available within the software.

You can move the location of the storage folder one of two ways:

1. if you are already using POSH and have users/settings configured that you wish to maintain and you are comfortable editing XML formatted file then:

- Uninstall POSH software
- Open the XML file C:\ProgramData\PersonalStorageHost\obh.xml in an editor of your choice (note, the folder C:\ProgramData\ is hidden by default so you might have to set "view hidden folders" in Windows Explorer Settings)
- Locate the <StorageFolder> node and update the path you want to use as your storage folder (e.g. <StorageFolder>G:\onlinestorage</StorageFolder>
- Save the XML file
- Using Windows Explorer, copy the existing storage folder (e.g. G:\onlinestorage) and all of its contents to the new storage folder you specified in the XML file
- Re-install POSH software ... all previous settings will be saved

2. a slightly easier method if you have not already configured POSH settings and users

- Uninstall POSH software
- Delete the folder "C:\ProgramData\PersonalStorageHost\" using Windows Explorer (note, the folder C:\ProgramData\ is hidden by default so you might have to set "view hidden folders" in Windows Explorer Settings)
- Re-install POSH software ... you will need to re-configure all POSH settings and user information
